flagWe are incredibly blessed in America. Even in the midst of horrific actions that take place all over our country; we are blessed to live freely.

We can go where we choose, dress as we like, eat what we desire and pray openly to our Heavenly Father. These things are characteristics of a free society.

Looking back at the history of our freedom is what Independence Day is all about. The blood, sweat and tears that have provided the freedom we all enjoy.

In 1776, the first Independence Day there was an estimated 2.5 million people living in a new free nation. Today, there are over 321 million people living in our free nation. Over 321 million people who believe they are entitled to the freedoms fought for so long ago and every day since; in one way or another.

I’ll not discuss “entitlement”, but I will say that our freedom would not exist without the hard roads traveled by those who have fought for it.

Theodore Roosevelt said, “Rhetoric is a poor substitute for action, and we have trusted only to rhetoric. If we are really to be a great nation, we must not merely talk; we must act big.”

We would not enjoy the great freedoms of this great nation if big actions had not been taken a very long time ago and over and over again ever since. The greatest action of all, that’s always been needed and provided, is prayer. Prayer has always been foundational to who we are as a nation.

Just make sure that you don’t use this freedom as an excuse to do whatever you want to do and destroy your freedom. Rather, use your freedom to serve one another in love; that’s how freedom grows. For everything we know about God’s Word is summed up in a single sentence: Love others as you love yourself. That’s an act of true freedom. If you bite and ravage each other, watch out—in no time at all you will be annihilating each other, and where will your precious freedom be then?” ~ Galatians 5:13-15 (MSG)[/stextbox]

July 4 serves as an excellent reminder and place to begin, or enhance, praying handspraying for our nation. I urge you to begin a process of praying regularly and earnestly for our country.  Don’t just talk about doing it – ACT BIG!

What joy for the nation whose God is the Lord, whose people he has chosen as his inheritance. – Psalm 33:12

Our greatest freedom and the reason we have freedoms at all came at the greatest price. God gave his one and only Son that every person could live freely forever; FOREVER. May you know the One true freedom that resides in Jesus.
